Pick & mix sweets
In a newsletter from www.netdoktor.se/Nyheter I read that the Swedes are eating the most quantity of sweets in the whole world, 37,47 pounds per year, compared to 15,43 pounds which is the average in Europe. I judge that pick & mix sweets can be the most illness evoking habit you could ever have. A concentrate of sugar and chemicals. What could we do about this?

The thyroid
Often questions about the thyroid come up. These who have been stated, by laboratory tests, concerning thyroid hormone deficiencies of course have to take thyroid hormone replacements. The most common one of these is Levaxin (The Swedish counterpart to Synthroid, Levoxyl etc). I have learned that the Levaxin dosages have to be adjusted due to the laboratory test results.
Among these patients many feel abnormally tired and indolent, and also these who have difficulties in losing weight in spite of a moderate intake of LCHF food.
There are doctors who call this Type-2 Hypothyroidism (Hypothyroidism = low function) or reduced susceptibility to the thyroid hormone’s effect in the body, compared to the insulin resistance mechanism. Thyroid hormones medication would then be much of use for these although they have normal hormone tests. Many persons have reported that they feel better and lose weight due to such a medication. Also some of these claim that diseases due to addiction depend on Type-2 Hypothyroidism. This is an interesting matter of research.
Then, which are the risks connected with too much thyroid hormones in the body? As far as I know the thyroxin regulates the speed of the life processes in the body. A high thyroxin level can then speed up the course of life itself and can accelerate the aging. It can be OK if you experience a big improvement of your quality of life and health. One risk which have been paid attention to is brittleness of the bones. In that case there is a reason for being restrictive in prescribing Levaxin to persons with normal thyroid tests. Hyper activity and disturbances of the heart rythm for instance atrial fibrillation are other symptoms of thyroid hormones overdose.

Manifestation about LCHF
The official dietary recommendations are leading to ill-health. All over the world the occurrence of overweight, Metabolic Syndrome (deteriorated insulin sensitivity, and Type-2 Diabetes). This development takes place paralleled with that the authorities in the West World’s countries due to initiative from USA and WHO, recommend a reduction of lipids in the diet, above all saturated lipids. You even recommend an equivalent increase of the carbohydrate intake.
The recommendation to decrease the intake of saturated lipids is based on the apprehension that saturated lipids are harmful to the blood vessels, and also it is considered to cause arteriosclerosis. This apprehension originates from a hypothesis from the 1950ies. The hypothesis has never been proved scientifically, but has by several different reasons still been spread out and supported by both the scientific establishment and the industry. The dietary recommendations are thus based on an extensive “local legend that has been spread far and wide” which probably lacks counterpart in the world history.
The dietary recommendations are now spread also to the developing countries. Even there overweight and Diabetes problems are increasing.
The metabolic Syndrome
The Metabolic Syndrome is characterized by a prolonged elevation of the blood sugar level after meal. Type-2 Diabetes is characterized by an elevated blood sugar even when fasting. The both conditions imply elevated blood insulin.
There are carbohydrates in the form of starch and sugar which elevate the blood sugar. The reaction on blood sugar is an elevated blood insulin level.
Insulin resistance is a result of a too high blood sugar and high blood insulin. An elevated blood sugar level makes the lipids get stored in the lipocytes and blocks the lipid burning process. This contributes overweight development.
Research
Later year’s research has shown that arteriosclerosis is a result by inflammatory effects on the blood vessels, which are caused by too high blood sugar and high blood insulin.
The logical move ought to be reducing the carbohydrates in the diet in order to lower the blood sugar and thus the blood insulin. These dietary experts who assert that saturated lipids are harmful to the blood vessels have no support for it in serious research. Because reducing the carbohydrate intake and not the saturated lipid intake ought to be the most natural, the burden of proof remains on them who recommend a reduction of saturated fat.
These studies which has compared low fat diet with low carbohydrate diet, have shown a convincing advantage to the low carbohydrate diet concerning markers due to heart diseases like for instance blood sugar, HbA1c, blood lipids structure, serum insulin and blood pressure and heart disease.
The evolution of mankind
Even if you at the prospect of an evolutionary perspective concerning the dietary matter, which ought to be a demand in modern science on this sphere, the fear of the saturated fat is hard to motivate. The mankind has eaten large quantities saturated lipids from animals during its whole evolution, and thus ought to be well adapted to these.
Demand
The official dietary recommendations, which proceed from the National Food Administration, ought to be changed over to recommendations concerning reduction of carbohydrates, especially fast blood sugar elevating carbohydrates, and furthermore recommend an increased intake of saturated lipids.

More about the Swine Flu
As you can understand I receive a lot of mail about the Swine Flu and vaccination. Some of them contain information about how the new influenza virus and the vaccine appeared. This virus consists of gene substances from seasonal flu, Swine Flu and Avian Flu (Bird Flu). Virus in the nature has no ability to mix themselves with each other in this way. Virus can mutate, but they have no sexual propagation which can mix gene substances.
It means that this new virus is produced in a laboratory, very likely by a pharmaceutical manufacturer. Then the virus is getting planted on strategic places I the world so that epidemics will break out. After then the manufacturers can induce their contact in WHO to issue a pandemic declaration. The unsuspecting politicians in the countries all over the world are going on with mass vaccinating their populations. The vaccine manufacturers earn man billions of money from it all, with rather low stakes.
Media loves the flu and the mass vaccination. Today I read a chronicle by Rolf Elmér in Sydsvenska Dagbladet. He writes: The consequences from an unsuccessful vaccination programme in Sweden would, if it comes to the worst, be a long term deteriorating public health and a return of epidemics from the old days.
In which way would a lower long term frequency of vaccinations deteriorate the public health? And does he honestly believe that you with an extensive mass vaccination can root out a virus so that it won’t come back? This is frantically naive, I think.

Constipated?
One of the most common questions I receive, both in mails and blog comments, are how to adjust problems with constipation on LCHF.
It cannot be the natural purpose that we would be constipated on a natural diet, but many have perhaps injured the function of their bowels what with the food high on fibres and carbohydrates that we have been recommended to eat.
Some suggestions I have seen are:
· Eating 1-2 tablespoons of coconut butter/oil* or put butter into the tea or hot water in the morning. It lubricates the bowels and helps them to transport their content in a beneficial way.
· Magnesium tablets.
· Jelly forming seed like for instance flax or psyllium seed. You can put them into water for a couple of hours to make them swell up before intake.
· If nothing works at all you have to take in fibres with as few carbohydrates as possible. For instance wheat bran, oat bran. Fibre products the health food store also stimulate the bowel’s function. Of course they contain carbohydrates but not many ounces.
· If nothing at all works you have to buy a Pharmacy product, for example these products consisting of water-soluble powder. Is a substance that binds water, increases the volume of the bowel’s contents and thus stimulate the bowel’s function.
* If you don´t tolerate coconut butter/oil, take 1-2 table spoons of olive oil instead, it makes the same effect. (Elisabeth´s comment)
Has anyone other suggestions?

The Swine Flu - Where is it?
This blog post was written by Annika Dahlqvist on 29 September, 2009 concerning the Swine Flu. Mass vaccination against the Swine Flu is in progress. The vaccine is not yet tried out (by the time when the post was published). It contains preservatives and other chemicals. The manufacturer has announced a declaration in purpose to be free from responsibility concerning possible damages due to the vaccine. When the latest mass vaccination took place in USA in 1976, there were twice as many who died because of the vaccine instead of the flu.
If you are vaccinated, you possibly have a weak protection against the flu during at maximum one year, after then you are reset to zero. If you accidentally get the flu you will be protected for the rest of your life and you your infection defence will be trained.
I have not met anybody who has been seriously ill by the Swine Flu. Do you know anyone?
Tore Scherstén has written an insertion about vaccination in Helsingborgs Dagblad. He alleges that elderly persons who have a reduced immune defence can be vaccinated. By “elderly” he addresses to people above 40-50 years old.
I still feel young even though I have passed 60 years of age.

According to the situation that Annika Dahlqvist is exposed to
According to this special situation that Annika Dahlqvist is exposed to for the moment , I publish her own words instead of commenting it myself. Her own explainations are following here below:
The "Fats Doctor" has totally gone off her right tracks.
From Annika Dahlqvist herself:
"This is said after a journalistic article in Expressen, where the journalist has construed me in the way that he wants himself. I am seriously beginning to believe that I am going to take a time out from journalistic interviews. I hope that the journalist will kindly overlook if I deny interviews for some time forwards.
Let’s see what it is which has so totally gone off my right tracks. That the vaccine contains dangerous quantities of mercury. I have neither said nor written this. It was the headline setter on Newsmill who wrote this. Anna Bäsén (writer of this journalistic article) ought to know that a headline in a newspaper is set by a headline setter. What I mean, however, is that mercury, on the whole, shall not be injected into people because it is a poison.
That WHO is corrupted, I stated together with a lot of others so many years ago. This is hardly controversial. The fact about WHO going out with a pandemic statement when the vaccine manufacturer lies in the starting hole for vaccine production without being a pandemic, strengthens this opinion.
That the Swedes will be forced to be vaccinated, have I according to my knowledge never alleged. I say that propaganda is going out about having us vaccinated due to solidarity to others. I consider that vaccination shall be a decision of one’s own, without any arguments about solidarity, because the vaccine is not guaranteed to be harmless.
Neither have I advised anyone against being vaccinated, neither patients nor others, I but say that it is everyone’s business to judge according the own person and in occurring cases for their children. Anna Bäsén ought to have known this if she had checked the matter before she writes her condemns. She is joining herself comfortably to the media drive. The solidarity there is probably pleasant, just like within the victimizing gang."

They stick together
From Annika Dahlqvist herself:
"Many people tell me that I am supposed to devote myself to the dietary matters and not bother about the vaccination matter. But from my viewpoint they stick together. I don’t think that we shall not take in unnecessary, harmful chemicals neither through the mouth nor injected under the skin. We are supposed to eat natural food and get ourselves own natural antibodies against common occurring virus.
An influenza virus which has arrived can’t be exterminated, it but returns over and over again."

Aftonbladet and Expressen on 15 October, 2009
From Annika Dahlqvist herself:
"The both newspapers write that I have “been fired”, but I have not. I have become blacklisted as a substitute doctor on duty, although I have been a much appreciated in my work as such. Aftonbladet still writes that I have said that mammography and cervical smear tests are very ridiculous, but it is still a misunderstanding. I only felt it ridiculous for me personally to do. I have never advised anyone against these examinations.
Sometimes I feel like a hunted rat, but according to a comment from someone: - It is only about collapsing and then go further."

Torsten Mossberg, the Medical Adviser
From Annika Dahlqvist herself:
“- It was probably the last straw for the County Council which I completely understand. Her statement is not according to science and can be harmful for large groups of patients, says Torsten Mossberg, Medical Adviser on the National Board of Health and Welfare.”
"Is this a statement worthy a Medical Adviser? In which way have I tormented the Primary Health Care in the County Council of West Norrland, so that they have a reason for loosing the patience concerning me, to the degree that they put me off my possibility to earn my living on the home district?
According to my knowledge, you must have neglected your work seriously, to have a legitimate reason for being shut off. Opinions concerning mass vaccination are reasonably not forbidden to have. Besides, we are many who are negative to the mass vaccination. To Aftonbladet I had said that I saw no reasons to set time for my own mammography and cervical smear tests. I have never advised anybody against doing these examinations.
The question about dietary advice for diabetics still remains. Does it disturb Torsten Mossberg that I make hundreds of diabetics in Sweden healthy? Which research proves that LCHF is worse for diabetics than Low Fat-High Carbohydrate diet? Why does not the establishment perform any research about this, if they don’t have any proof that their dietary advice is better then LCHF?"

The most common questions
I recieve many questions by e-mail. The most common questions are:
- Isn’t it risky to keep away from carbohydrates?
My answer: The body needs a normal blood sugar. If it does not get any carbohydrates (sugar and starch) to the blood sugar, it produces itself blood sugar from protein and fats from the food. This is called glucogogenes. You never get too low blood sugar unless you inject a too high insulin dosage. According to its energy supply the body can use the fat burning. It gets on excellently well with it.
- Don´t you get too high cholesterol due to eating much fats?
My answer: You don´t gain too high cholesterol due to eating fats. The cholesterol which the body needs, it produces by itself, in the liver, if it does not gain enough cholesterol from the food. Higher cholesterol is not dangerous to the heart. It is a myth. See the page by Ulf Ravnskov. There is no benefit to the heart in lowering the cholesterol itself. The Becel advertisement that eating Becel is benefical to the heart, is an everlasting lie. There are no inquiries which prove that eating Becel, or any other margarine is more beneficial to the heart than eating butter.
On the other hand there are several inquiries which prove that eating margarine is harmful to the blood vessels. See Gunnar Lindgren´s page, the section about fats. This even concerns these cooking oils containing high content of Omega-6 like for instance maize oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil etc, they are harmful to the body. The blood lipid lowering medicines, the statines, brings more side effects than benefits. If you eat I the right way, that is less carbohydrates and instead add more natural animal fats; fats from meat, fish and dairy products, the body gets healthier and persons who medicate with statines can probably reduce these.
- The ketosis when you don´t eat carbohydrates, is it dangerous?
My answer: The dangerous thing is the ketoacidosis due to untreated Type-1 diabetes when the person has to low insulin in the body followed by very high blood sugar. Then a highly dangerous, uncontrolled content of blood acidity occurs. At low carbohydrate intake the body burns fat instead. Then ketone bodies establish themselves in the blood which the body in its turn can use as an energy source. This is a completely natural and harmless process. The body than has a normal blood sugar and a normal acid/alkaline balance.
- The milk was not found during the Stone Age, are we still supposed to eat it?
My answer: The milk was not found in the original diet. But it is a natural animal product. It is of a big value in our diet. If it would be excluded, there has to be strong scientific evidences concerning disadvantages to the health. However, there are no studies like that but on the contrary many which have shown that fatty dairy products are beneficial to both our health and weight control. Se the blog insertion: Milk can protect you from heart disease.
- Can children eat LCHF?
My answer: Slim, healthy children don´t a diet strictly low on carbohydrates. It is enough if they don´t eat too little natural fats. It is enough if they have real butter, or the mixture of rape oil and butter sold in some countries, on their sandwich added generously with cheese. Children can eat generously with meat mince sauce and just a little spaghetti. Maybe about 40 energy percents of carbohydrates. Overweight children can eat LCHF as far as they accept it.
- How effective is physical training according to weight loss?
My answer: Physical training is very beneficial to the health in every ways. The body is maid for being in motion, and to work physically. However, physical training is ineffective ccording to weight loss. This has been proved in many studies on both adults and children. However, very much training is necessary to get rid of the energy in rather small quantities of food. You have neither time nor stamina for so much training like this.
Furthermore greatly overweight persons can´t exercise so much as their weight carrying joints don´t cope with the weight and they gain repetitive strain injuries. When they have lost weight, for instance by having eaten LCHF, they gain a completely another possibility and advantage in exercising.
- Fruits are so healthy, are you not allowed to eat them?
My answer: Fruits are a sugar solution, as heavy as fruit syrup or soft drink with occasional swimming vitamin C. Fruits contain no wholesomeness which are not found in vegetables.
Healthy and slim individuals can eat one fruit a day, but ill and overweight individuals ought to ration their fruit intake. High fruit intake can also bring corrosion damages to the teeth due to their high acidity.
- Is it possible to eat a vegetarian LCHF?
My answer: It is getting more difficult the less animal food that you eat. If you eat eggs and dairy products, it can be OK. Even better if you are able to eat fish. If you don´t even eat dairy products, it is getting difficult to gain the nutrients which you need. I can´t advise to it. Then you have to be in touch with a dietician for advice.
I insert a comment comment on my blog from 22 July, 2007:
”I am totally convinced that sugar and starch in second hand is the most harmful to us, they make the blood sugar go by roller coaster, and I like so many others have gone through the half of the life and felt slightly peckish followed buy a constant eating. However, I don´t consider it beneficial to gorge oneself with fats, or on the whole gorging, which some people following this diet almost consider to be a must.
"I am vegetarian and have still succeeded to change over to this diet and have for the first time in my life felt satisfied for a LONG TIME. I eat less, but still feel more satisfied. Eggs (always ecological), whole milk, all kind of vegetables (terrines, gratins, raw food) virgin olive oil, real butter (ecological), cheese (mozzarella, parmesan, cottage cheese, feta cheese, crème fraiche (the fatty variety) are the favourites, fruit (not bananas) at maximum 5-6 per per day (works for me), berries, fungus, much fungus with onion (TASTY!). Hummus to dip sticks of vegetables in or why not on the breakfast eggs, plenty of fresh herbs when cooking and my weight falls down, but am still not hungry. I have accordingly excluded all kind of flours, sugar, rice, couscous, pasta, all potato dishes”.
- How much alcohol am I allowed to drink?
My answer: I usually answer at maximum two glasses of wine per week. More than so you don´t need. Alcohol is not a carbohydrate but it gives energy. The body burns the alcohol first and meantime neither fat nor sugars are burnt.
It is well known that alcohol causes diabetics blood sugar turns, and therefore ought to be avoided by these. Beer contains rather much carbohydrates, malt sugar, maltose. Therefore you shall be especially restrictive with it.
Concerning spirits you have got to estimate a quantity of alcohol corresponding to two glasses of wine. This might be a small glass of it per week?
- I am underweight. What am I supposed to do in order to gain weight?
Some people are underweight. I don´t know why. Obviously they have a poor ability to store fats. Are they likely to have a normal quantity of muscles? I have never heard that these people would have an abnormally poor muscular strength. I think they are supposed to eat a normal quantity of food, for instance approximately 20, 30, 40, 50, 20, 30 energy percents. There is no reason for these to eat a bigger share of carbohydrates just in order to gain weight. It is likely to be as dangerous to the health for these people to eat a high share of carbohydrates, and the health is more important than the weight.
- Is LCHF beneficial during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
I think there are no reasons to be on a strictly carbohydrate low diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding. According to reports, the baby can find the milk untasty when the mother is on ketosis (However I have never heard about the Eskimo mothers having had problems with their breast feeding). I think that you during pregnancy and breast feeding can be on a moderate low carbohydrate diet, about 1, 41-2, 12 ounces of carbohydrate per one day and night. These carbohydrates are then of course the slow kinds. Generously with the natural saturated fat as usual. There is no reason for a big weight loss during this part of the life. You can make up for this later.
- Which differences are there between LCHF, GI and Atkins?
The GI method sets no limit for the share of carbohydrates in the diet. This can mean such a high share of carbohydrates as the National Food Administration recommends: 50-60 energy percents. The meaning of GI is that the carbohydrates give a slow blood sugar elevation.
The terms of GI (Glycemic Index) might be profitable to healthy people, on condition that they keep the quantity of carbohydrates reasonably low. But to persons with the Metabolic Syndrome and Type-2 diabetes a high carbohydrate intake with low GI means – a solid elevated blood sugar and solid elevated blood insulin. These both are likewise harmful to these people. Only if the carbohydrate intake is reduced, their blood sugar and blood insulin sink down to acceptable levels.
The Atkins method as well as GI weight control means a “flying start” with a low carbohydrate intake. Then the carbohydrates are reintroduced in elevating quantity. LCHF means reducing the carbohydrates to an individually adapted level and remain on it for the rest of your life. Neither Atkins says so much about the fat qualities. LCHF says that we are supposed to eat natural fats, mostly the animal ones, and not the food industry’s artificial fats, the margarines. Neither are we supposed eat the cooking oils high on Omega-6 which are maize oil, sunflower oil, thistle oil etc. Neither Atkins keeps distance to all the industrial additives in the food. The Atkins Company itself has produced and sold plenty of products stuffed with chemicals and sweeteners.
- Coconut oil (butter) is often recommended. What is beneficial about it?
Per Wikholm answers:
Literary advice about coconuts:
Eat fat, Lose Fat (Lose Weight and Feel great with the Delicious, Science-Based Coconut Diets), By Dr Mary Enig & Sally FallonThe price is 10 $ on amazon.com, freight added on.

A quick summary of the benefits connected with the coconuts:
Contains much saturated fats / more than butter
Very low level of Omega/6 compared with other vegetable oils
High share of Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA) with antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal effect (counteract germs, virus and fungus infections)
On contrary to the palm oil the coconuts are growing nearby shores and not in devastated rain forests
A resource sparing way in producing healthy fats. A coconut palm produces between 50-100 coconuts per year
- Diet at renal failure?
I now and then receive question about which diet to be on at renal failure. There is not much research on this. I have even asked Ulf Ranskov about is. At renal failure you shall not eat too much protein, just 0, 02 ounces per 2, 2 pounds body weight every day and night. This makes about 1, 41 ounces (you have to take a look in a nutrition table in order to see how much food it makes, or ask a dietician who can help you to figure it out). This is because the kidneys at renal failure are limited concerning the ability in secreting broken down products.
High carbohydrate intake is also harmful for the kidneys, because high blood sugar and high blood insulin are toxic to the kidney. The only kind of energy that is not harmful to the kidneys is natural fat. The diet at renal failure is therefore LCHF: low carbohydrates, low protein and high fat. Besides, a renal failure patient shall of course not eat more food than he/she needs, as broken down products from excessive foods are to be secreted through the kidneys.
- Are lactic intolerants able to eat LCHF? There are two kind of dairy hypersensitivities; lactose intolerants and dairy protein allergy. When Lactose intolerant (lactose = lactic sugar) the lactose decomposing enzyme lactase is missing. In fact this is not a real allergy. Milk, sour milk and cream are available in lactose free varieties. Hard cheese does not contain lactose. Butter contains 0, 5 % of lactose, and this is as little that it can´t cause trouble.
When dairy protein allergic you can´t eat dairy products, and have to stick to the other natural fat and protein sources. Butter fat which does not contain dairy protein, you can get produce by making “Gee Butter” (the recipe follows below this post). No body is hypersensitive to butter fat.
- Gall stones at LCHF, how does it work?
Gall stones are produced by low fat food. The bile´s purpose is breaking down fat in the small intestine. If you don´t eat fat the bile remains in the gall bladder and the cholesterol sediments itself and produces stones. When you then eat fat, the gall bladder contracts itself and pushes out the bile via a bile duct into the intestine, and then a stone can get stuck in the bile duct and cause a stasis behind it. It is this bilious stasis which causes the gall stone pain.
I have recieved many reports from people who earlier have had verified gall stones, but who now after a long term period on LCHF, when examined are stated to be free from gall stones. You can imagine different mechanisms. Either the stones have left by the bile duct with or without attack of biliary colic, or the stones have been dissolved by the bile which has been flowing around them. But in the occasion that you have so many or so large stones, which causes inflamed gall bladder, you have to remove it by an operation. Then you have to do it, and it can happen to people who are on a low fat as well as a low carbohydrate diet. After having had the gall bladder removed you can still eat LCHF as well. The bile is getting produced in the same quantity without gall bladder.
Some people think that they are troubled with pain and feeling of sickness on LCHF and believe it to depend biliary problems.
These people I usually advise to eat smaller meals with successively elevating fat content so that they feel control over the situation and can pause in elevating the fat intake if they experience problems. So that they may see where they are going.
LCHF effects on Type-1 diabetes?
I often receive questions Type-1 diabetic’s diet (DT1). I have therefore tried to write an insertion about is. Type-1 diabetics also ought to eat LCHF. They have like Type-2 diabetics (DT2) a pessimistic long term prognosis. They are exposed to the same risk for long term complications of all kinds, for instance eye injuries leading to impaired eyesight and blindness, injured kidneys followed by renal failure and dialysis, heart attack, heart failure, stroke, dementia, sore feet followed by amputations etc.
For DT1 as well as for DT2, the high blood sugar and blood insulin levels causes inflammations in the blood vessels and causes plaque and calcification, which then cause strictures and impaired blood circulation.
At dt1 you are also afraid of attacks of low blood sugar, (hypoglycaemia) because they can damage the brain. In order to avoid hypoglycaemia you usually advise the dt1 patients to keep their insulin a little bit low. Thus they instead have to be on a high average blood sugar. If they then are on a diet with a low share of carbohydrates, LCHF, reduced need of insulin follows. If they eat a high share of carbohydrates they have to be on a relatively high insulin dosage. On high insulin dosages the risk of hypoglycaemia is elevating.
If a DT1 is on a diet with low share of carbohydrates, the need of insulin is lowered and then also the risk of hypoglycaemia. The inflammatory effect from high blood sugar and insulin levels is reduced also. There are many examples on elderly dt1s who have kept eating according to the old dietary recommendations low on carbohydrates, and therefore kept themselves healthy up to a very old age.
Richard Bernstein, who is a doctor in USA, has a home page about this http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/book/mylife.shtml. He has also written books about it, for instance “Dr Bernstein’s diabetes solution: The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars”.
The doctor Katharine Morrison in England has also written about LC (LowCarb) on dt1. Her son was affected by the disease and have recovered a lot due to LC. She is running an educational site about LC on diabetes: D-solve.
Ron Raab, former president of the International Diabetes Federation, has recently written an article: Why I thing LowCarb/Low Insulin… http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1570767/.
The best to a DT1 is on a low carbohydrate diet in purpose to lower the need of insulin. Low insulin activates the glucagons production in the alpha cells of the pancreas. The glucagons start the glucogenes in the liver. The blood sugar is produced from protein and fats in the food. It is the share of triglycerides, the fat, which can be changed to blood sugar. It is a high insulin dosage which can cause hypoglycaemia, not a low insulin dosage. The brain does not need more than a normal blood sugar with which the glucogenes supplies. The brain has even ability to use energy from these ketones which are produced by the fat burning process.
In fact a DT1 who eat LCHF probably does not need an insulin pump. It ought to be enough with a low dosage of long term insulin and possibly a few units of short term insulin before a low carbohydrate meal.
The most in this blog, is that saturated fat is not harmful to the blood vessels and that a high carbohydrate intake causes arteriosclerosis , and that yellow artificial fat, margarine, and cooking oils high on Omega-6 are likely to cause the arteriosclerosis. All this concerns Dt1 as well as all of us.
Of course the insulin dosage has to be adjusted due to the blood sugar level. When changing over from low fat to low carb you have to be forwards in lowering the insulin, otherwise there is risk to get hypoglycaemia.
- LCHF effects on PCOs?
The link below has been sent to Annika Dahlqvist from Ulf Ranskov:

A study which shows a psychological benefits for PCOs patients who are on low carbohydrate diet according another link below:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17509728?dopt=AbstractPlus
Mavropoulus, Yancy, Hepburn and Westman: The effects of a low carbohydrate………
Eleven women with PCOs were informed about low carbohydrate diet, less than 0, 71 ounces per day. Five of these women coped with sticking to the diet, and they significantly lowered their weight, testosterone level and their insulin on an empty stomach.
The study proceeded for 6 months. Two of these women, who earlier were infertile, became pregnant. Sten Sture Skaldeman says that among the most common e-mails from the readers of his book, are these from women who tell him that they are improved or recovered from their PCOs due to the low carbohydrate diet.
- Has LCHF any effect on cancer?
Very likely the unnatural fats, the margarines, and the inflammatory Omega-6 oils (for instance maize oil, sunflower oil) have a negative effect on the cell defence against cancer evoking materials. The cell membranes are to a high degree built up on fats, and these wrong kinds of fats are harmful to the cell and disturb its real functions. There are the reasons why these fats increase the cancer risk.
Even many chemicals in the E-numbers run the risk to increase cancer diseases. Medicines, like blood lipids lowering statines, have also been shown to increase the risk in falling ill of cancer. When you once have got cancer the cancer cells are fed by carbohydrates. Namely, cancer cells can use only sugar as their energy, they cannot burn fat.
Otto Warburg got the Nobel Prize already in 1931 due to this discovery. The diet low on fat, with margarines and cooking oils, are able to cause cancer and then are feeding the cancer cells.

A quick summary of the benefits connected with the coconuts:
Contains much saturated fats / more than butter
Very low level of Omega/6 compared with other vegetable oils
High share of Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA) with antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal effect (counteract germs, virus and fungus infections)
On contrary to the palm oil the coconuts are growing nearby shores and not in devastated rain forests
A resource sparing way in producing healthy fats. A coconut palm produces between 50-100 coconuts per year

Gee Butter recipe. An alternative to butter which even lactic intolerants can use
One reader asked me about what to replace milk products with for her lactic intolerant daughter. The question was mainly what could replace butter and she mentioned a kind of margarine named "Pure". It is a brand I don´t know about because it is not sold on the Swedish market. I suggested coconut butter/oil to replace butter. Other good replacements are olive and rape oil. Annika Dahlqvist has another alternative to butter called Gee Butter where the milk proteins and lactose is removed. It is a kind of clarified butter often used in Indian cooking. The recipe follows here below:
1. Melt butter. Take a whole package of butter that is real, pure butter and not margarine, preferably unsalted even if it works with the common lightly salted. Melt it slowly on low temperature.
2. Simmer. When the butter has melt down completely, let it simmer in the hob for about 60 minutes. Keep the temperature as low as possible so that the bottom of the saucepan won´t gets burnt. Look after it now and then, but avoid stirring, the purpose is that the sediment will be separated from the oil.
3. Let it cool down. After 60 minutes a white milky mass has been separated from the butter fats, and foam has laid itself on the surface. Don’t touch this, instead let it cool down for 15 minutes.
4. Remove the foam. After having cooled down a little the white milky mass has sunken to the bottom of the saucepan, and a deposit of foam has laid itself on the surface. Remove the foam so that the surface becomes completely glossy.
5. Filtrate. Now it is time to filtrate away the sediment in the bottom of the sauce pan. Pour through a filter paper or a filter cloth. A strainer and a coffee filter works well. If the filter is getting silted up so that the whole process will be stopped you just change it. If it takes such a long time that the butter is beginning to get thicker, you can warm it now and then. When you are ready the oil look completely clear and will have a beautiful golden yellow colour.
6. Store. Pour it into a glass jar and store in the refrigerator where it is supposed to last for at least 6 months. It gets stiff in the refrigerator and then colour turns lighter, but regains its beautiful golden yellow colour at usage.

Blacklisted by the County Council of West Norrland
I have got a question from one of my readers if it is true that Annika Dahlqvist had been fired from her job. Therefore I have translated Annika Dahlqvist´s personal explanation from her Swedish blog about what really happened. For me it is a matter of confidence and respect and that is why I prefer to let Annika tell the truth:
Written by Annika Dahlqvist on 13 October 2009, at 22:19
"Tonight I had, right before the lecture in Luleå, got a telephone call from a nurse on a care centre in Sundsvall. She told me that the primary health care director in West Norrland, Lennart Moberg, has decided that I no longer would be applied to as a substitute doctor on duty in the County Council because I have expressed myself to be negative concerning the influenza vaccine, cervical smear tests, and mammography.
I have, since I gave in my notice from the care centre of Njurunda in 2006, for the most part earned my living as a substitute doctor on duty in Sundsvall. I have accordingly taken myself upon substitute working periods on above all these care centres which are without enough of ordinary family doctors which can man their administered substitute working periods.
Now during this summer 2009 I wrote in the blog that I considered the mass vaccination to be wrong – that the arguments should not be used in purpose to have us vaccinated out of solidarity of others. I considered that to be everyone’s own business whether to be vaccinated for one’s own benefit – not in account of other’s.
Then I had got a telephone call from a reporter on Aftonbladet. I told her that I judge, because of experiences shared in common, that we who eat LCHF have such a great infection defence, and that we therefore are likely to have a reduced risk to catch the flu, and if we catch it, it then ought to be milder.
In analogy with other infections. I also told that I experienced the question of diet as so important to inform about that I didn’t take my time to go on mammography or cervical smear test. These examinations seem to me as drops in the ocean related to the illness evoking effect which the incorrect dietary advice has.
The journalist wrote in Aftonbladet that I had said that LCHF-eaters are not able to catch the Swine flu and cancer, and that I was against mammography and cervical smear tests.
Now I have to presume that I am now blocked from all places of work in the primary health care in the County Council of West Norrland, as I am blocked from the substitute primary health care. It simply feels completely unreal to gain exclusion from a civil service profession because of something that Aftonbladet have alleged that I have said. Without even having heard me the matter.
Luckily enough I have a husband who can provide for me if it would be necessary. Unless he kicks me out from our home of course.

Dietary advice for elderly people
How elderly people are supposed to eat:
They often have a deeply rooted restraint to the starch food. Porridge, bread and potatoes are experienced to be the basic food. Many elderly persons feel as if their quality of life is lowering if they are not allowed to eat these food stuffs. The meat, cheese, they consider to be a smaller - luxurious - part of the meal. Often elderly people don’t exercise so much. Therefore they don’t need so many calories per day. But they still need enough protein and natural fats to build up and repair their bodies.
Elderly people are particularly exposed to vascular diseases. Therefore they have especially big reasons to be on a diet which prevents these.
I have a suggestion for a compromise.
The porridge you can do without. I don’t know any kind of porridge which is not completely corbohydrate dominated. Likewise pancakes and macaroni you can completely do without.
Concerning bread you can choose some low carbohydrate kinds. For example a thin slice of crisp bread with a carbohydrate content below 0, 18 ounces. Half such a slice with a generous layer of butter and cheese on corresponds to a substantial, common sandwich, but has a carbohydrate content on just 0, 07-0, 11 ounces.
Butter: You can cut one piece of it or take a whole package of butter and place it on a plate and slice with a cheese slicer. The same slicer can be used for the fatty cheese. If you store butter in the larder (it keeps itself fresh without becoming rancid) it can be spread by a butter knife. If you can’t imagine to store the butter in the larder or use a cheese slicer, a special kind of spread looking like butter which is a mixture of butter and rape oil (sold in some countries), can be used instead (only the nest best alternative due to its rape oil content). Margarines like for instance Becel are totally forbidden. They are illness evoking as they contain artificial fats which are not the right kind to human beings.
Potatoes can if need arises, be eaten in shape of a small one with the meal. One 0, 42 cups of potatoes contain 0, 56 ounces of carbohydrates which can be room for within a carbohydrate limit on 0, 71-1, 41 ounces per day.
For breakfast a woman can have half a slice of crisp bread with generously with butter and cheese on it and an egg. A large man can have doubled quantity, that is to say a whole slice of crisp bread and two eggs. Coffee with cream with it. The same stuff can be taken when fast food is needed.
For lunch and dinner meat/fish can be eaten, cooked with so much butter and cream you reasonably can get into it. The food quantity is adapted to the bodily size and physical activity. I usually say that the quantity of meat corresponds to the size of your own clench fist. The cheap cooking oils like maize oil, sunflower oil etc contain almost only Omega-6 and shall not be used. You ought to fry in butter or coconut butter.
Vegetables with the meal according to desire. Elderly people don´t have to force themselves to eat big quantities of vegetables, it is just tough for them and does not bring anything essential. The vitamins which they need they take from the protein and fat food and from a small moderate quantity of vegetables. You can make an oil and vinegar dressing with olive or rape oil, to serve with the vegetables. This is the only time you use oil with the food. The better is a dressing made of Turkish yoghurt or crème fraiche and mayonnaise.
If milk or sour milk is desired it shall be” fully fat”. Middle or light varieties are lacking raison d´être.
Fruits are only a sugar solution and can be completely abandoned.
On coffee party you can have a thin crisp bread sandwich according to above with butter and cheese or ham. Order this when invited to coffee party. If the host does not stand by this, you have to bring it with you. The sweet taste is not necessary on weekdays. On party you can take a small piece of the cream cake. Type this post out and give to all senior citizens whom you know.

Dietary advice for men
In the blog margin (Annika Dahlqvist´s original Swedish version) I have links to texts about dietary advice for children, women and elderly people. This is because so many have asked about diet especially for these. After this many have asked about what concerns men – if they ought not to eat LCHF. On my lectures around the country, about 90 % of the audience is women. It even mirrors the interest concerning questions about diet and health. Therefore I believe that it often is the woman in the family who spread the diet ideas further to the rest of the family, and therefore it is good that many women come. In fact it is as important to men as for women and children. They who are healthy, slim and physically active can eat more carbohydrates, but the majority of the energy intake has, with advantage, to be natural fats. There are no evidences that natural fats in an adequate (needed) quantity are evoking illnesses.
Carbohydrates give fast energy supply, but at the same time elevate blood sugar, which causes a higher insulin need. High blood sugar and high blood insulin are inflammatory and cause all the manifestations as the Metabolic Syndrome represents:
1. Overweight
2. Type-2 Diabetes (continually elevated blood sugar), or glucose intolerance (elevated blood sugar lasting too long after a meal). This indicates insulin resistance which is to say that the cells meet a resistance against the insulin effect in bringing the blood sugar into them.
3. High blood pressure.
4. Different blood lipids count (above all elevated Triglycerides and a low HDL and elevated count concerning the small tight LDL). These counts are included in the modern measurement ApoB/ApoA1. Elevated total cholesterol count (which Becel measures at the grocer’s) has no connection with future cardiovascular health. Becel´s measurements have the only purpose to increase the selling of Becel which very likely is illness evoking for us. The Metabolic Syndrome considerably increases the risk of illnesses. These who have one or more signs telling of Metabolic Syndrome ought to keep the carbohydrate intake down to the bottom. This can imply that you eat only the carbohydrates which are held within a moderate quantity of above earth vegetables. Possibly, if desired, a smaller amount of lactose contenting dairy products, and maybe a little root vegetables, except for potatoes. As for the rest you eat fat animal food stuffs. Furthermore, everyone ought to minimize the intake of margarines, Omega-6 oils (maize oil, sunflower oil, thistle oil etc) and all the remaining, by the food industry, worked up products and additives. Moreover, see my Dietary Programme.

Dietary advice for women
The LCHF (LowCarbHighFat) diet is perfect for women. The dietary advice like the National Food Administration as well as equivalent authorities in the whole world advocates, contain a high share of carbohydrates (sugar and starch), and a small share of fats, of which an especially low share is the natural animal one. This diet makes us both fat and ill. They recommend us to eat a high share of vegetable fats which contain a high share of polyunsaturated fats of the Omega-6 type which give us inflammations, poorer immune defence, cancer risk, hardening of the arteries etc.
Instead we need to eat more of the natural animal fats, especially from ecologically and locally grazing animals. Their fats contain a higher quantity of Omega-3 which gives us a better infection defence, less ability to inflammations, and less hardening of the arteries. Fatty, wild fish contains much Omega-3 also. The vegetable Omega-3 chains are too short for us to be able to assimilate them. We also have a great benefit from the animal saturated fat which gives us energy without elevating the blood sugar and is a fine building material for our cells.
High carbohydrate intake gives elevated blood sugar and blood insulin. This causes inflammations in the body, among other things in the blood vessels where a process starts which leads to hardening of the arteries and formation of thrombosis. This gives us heart attack, stroke and other blood clots. High blood insulin gives elevated blood sugar and blood insulin. High blood insulin transforms the blood sugar into fats and stores it in the fat tissue. High blood insulin blocks fat burning. This is why you at high carbohydrate intake only can store fat, but not burn the fat which is stored.
To become healthy and reach normal weight you ought to reduce your carbohydrate intake so that the blood sugar will not be elevated after the meals. Then the blood insulin will not be elevated and no inflammation in the body or in the blood vessels follows.
Also you ought to change the margarine and the cooking oils to butter or maybe coconut butter (wholesome saturated fat). Where you absolutely need cooking oil you can use cold-pressed, ecological olive oil or rape oil. Margarines (for instance Becel etc) are illness evoking, chemically transformed vegetable fats which shall be avoided completely.
I have written a text about this (see “The LCHF method for better health and weight control”), and a dietary programme (see “Dietary program according to LCHF LowCarb-HighFat”)
for health and weight control”).
Slim, healthy and physically active women can eat a higher quantity of carbohydrates because they burn them due to their work, and therefore don’t get elevated blood sugar.
Overweight and women who are ill ought to eat as little as possible of carbohydrates as they don’t have all requirements to exercise as much as needed to be able to burn that blood sugar which follows higher carbohydrate intake.
I have also written an article about reported health benefits (see “Health Benefits”).
Among female health problems which can improve by LCHF can be mentioned: Overweight, diabetes, problems related to the stomach/intestines, fibromyalgia, burnout, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), PMS (premenstrual syndrome), climacteric inconvenience, skin problems, and problems related to the joints and muscles, asthma, allergies etc. Nothing has shown that the LCHF diet is a health damage risk. Therefore you have got everything to win and nothing to loose in giving this diet an honest chance to help you to improve your health. If you notice that you feel better on LCHF you ought to continue with this diet for the rest of life. If you return to the former diet all the problems are coming back.
Diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
I don’t think that you need to follow a diet strictly low on carbohydrates then. Then you have another person to supply for. But it does no harm to the baby if you still want to follow a diet strictly low on carbohydrates. The LCHF food has a higher concentration of important nutrients as you don’t need to burden your metabolism with the nutritionally “empty” carbohydrates. Therefore you don’t have any bigger reason to take nutritional supplements on LCHF diet than on High Carbohydrate-Low Fat diet.
Strictly low carbohydrate <0, 71 ounces carbohydrates each day. Moderately low carbohydrate<1, 06-2, 82 ounces carbohydrates each day

Dietary advice for children
All children, even overweight children can be on a diet high on natural fats, but they ought to avoid margarines and Omega-6 oil. Very likely they don’t need to be on an especially strict low carbohydrate diet because they are very much in motion and they are growing. But they ought to have a considerably smaller quantity of carbohydrates then the one which the National Food Administration recommends. They can eat mincemeats sauce with spaghetti instead of spaghetti with mincemeats sauce.
If the overweight does not go down as desired on a diet which is moderately low on carbohydrates, the child has to reduce the quantity of carbohydrates until the weight will turn downwards or at least will not increase. It is important to bring the child to keep its hands off potato crisps, strips and sweets. They are high on carbohydrates and the wrong kind of fats; transfats and Omega-6. Furthermore sweets often contain uncountable flavourings and colourings with unknown harmful effects to their bodies. The best way to get away from the cravings for junk food is to eat enough of natural fats.
Soft drinks and fruit drinks can be drunken on parties but not on weekdays. They contain to high quantities of sugar. The same circumstance about drinking chocolate. Whole milk and water is tasty enough to drink on weekdays.
Children who are eating many carbohydrates, margarines, cooking oils and other additives in a diet low on animal fats may receive disturbances in their mental functions. They may be disturbed in their concentration ability, aggressive, over-active and have their intellectual development deteriorated. These children have to change their diet; reduce the carbohydrates and eat butter and other animal fats, inclusive Omega-3 and completely exclude the artificial fats and additives. You never know which of these they tolerate the worst so therefore it is for the best to keep away from them all. As long as the effects of the margarine fats and the modern vegetable oils are unknown what they can do to human beings you have better doing without them. Children ought to have natural and ecologically produced food.

The childhood of mankind took place on the savannah in Africa where they survived on animal food with its contents of saturated fats. We have for many thousands of years eaten fatty milk products almost without anybody gaining heart attack. People in the south have from the time immemorial been eating coconut butter/oil and remained healthy on it.
When we now eat margarine and Omega-6 oils heart attack is the main genocide. There is no research which proves that the industry’s artificial fats, margarine is more beneficial to the cardiovascular health than the natural butter.
Many dietary advisers in the society refer to the professors on the National Food Administration and to the big overweight clinical departments concerning their low fat-low, low calorie dietary advice.
The dietary advice from the professors have not made many people slimmer and healthier, but the more people have grown heavier and more ill after having followed these. It is the food industry by way of their organisations SNF and ILSI which influence the professors to recommend their chemico-technical products instead of natural food.
Thousands of people in Sweden have now discovered this and instead regained their health and weight control by low carbohydrate-high fat diet, LCHF with natural primary products. The knowledge about this has spread itself like circles on the water surface.
When you ask the professors about what they base their dietary advice on, they ignore the question, or refer to a thick book in English (NNR, Nordic Nutrition Recommendations). There you yet can’t find the answer about what the advice are based on. There is not a single study which proves that low fat is better than low carbohydrate diet for health and weight control, and not either any that proves that the natural fat is inferior to the health than the industry’s artificial fats.
It is the professors on the National Food Administration, the big Medicine Clinics and the overweight clinics which foremost represent the dietary model (LFHC) for which there is no evidence for, neither in research nor well-tried experience. They ought not to be paid by tax revenues when they convey out a message that can jeopardize the health and life of mankind. The same thing has reference to the dietary establishment in the whole world. The international brotherhood, in collaboration with the industry. The worst consequences due to the illness evoking dietary advice are that our children and old people are on a diet which makes them ill. We have to start a peoples rebellion against the multinational food industry which through their marionettes in the international dietary establishment devastates the health and life of mankind!

Annika Dahlqvist: About me and my blogg
"
I am a general practitioner and live in Njurunda south of Sundsvall, Sweden.
During my whole adult life I have had overweight problems. I have been slimming like a yo-yo for years. From the middle of the 1980ies with a diet extremely low on fats followed only by weight gain. In the 1990ies I also fell ill in fibrocitis, arthritis and intestinal catarrh (IBS). In October 2004 I began, tipped by the wink by my daughter to be on a diet low on carbohydrates. I lost weight which I needed and recovered from all my diseases and ailments. There was no other change in my life which could have caused my recovery than my dietary change.
I began communicating with others, like-minded about this on the Internet. I became in touch with Ulf Ranskov who drew my attention to the fact that there are no scientific basic data about advising against natural, saturated fats.
I began informing my diabetes and overweight patients about LCHF, LowCarbHighFat, low carbohydrate-high fat and everyone who dared, wanted and coped with following the dietary programme recovered from their diseases and inconveniences.
As my dietary advice did not agree with these of the National Food Administration’s “Science and Well-Tried Experience” (with which the private care centre signed a contract together with the County Council about what we were expected to do) I, during the autumn 2006) had to leave my place of work. Nowadays I work as a freelancing physician within acute primary health care.
On 31 October 2005 I started this blog. It has expanded to be the most read one on Passagen Blogg and one of the most read health blogs in Sweden. In December 2005 I was reported by two dieticians in the County of Värmland. They wrote a mail to the National Swedish Board of Health and Welfare and made them pay attention to my divergent dietary advice.
The Medical Officer of Health Torsten Mossberg considered the mail to be a report and appointed a working team in order to scrutinize the scientific basic data. The group found that the matter was not that simple as they first had believed and called in the diabetes professor Christian Berne in Uppsala in order to analyze the matter.
The question that they asked him was: Is this dietary program, low carbohydrate diet in accordance with “Science and Well-Tried Experience”? In December 2007 he answered: Yes, this diet is in accordance with “Science and Well-Tried Experience”. It was at least as effective for the blood sugar and weight control as the low fat diet and he had not seen any evidences that it would be harmful to the health.
On 16 January 2008 the National Swedish Board of Health and Welfare came to the decision that my dietary programme was in accordance with “Science and Well-Tried Experience”. It caught big attention in Swedish media. The decision from the National Swedish Board of Health and Welfare was unique to the world. Many people in Sweden paid attention to the decision from the National Swedish Board of Health and Welfare and have after that tried the diet and noticed that they have become healthier and slimmer by it. Many people have someone in the circle of their acquaintances who has become healthier by LCHF and thus the knowledge propagates itself, about which diet to follow in order to improve the health as circles on the water surface.
Now I travel all over the country and lecture on LCHF and there is a big audience and a big interest everywhere. On the blog I have important links in the right margin. There is an introduction with important links, the Dietary Programme, a more detailed test about the LCHF method, a list on scientific studies, a list of other blogs and web pages on this subject and blogs and web pages in English. There is also a list of reported health benefits where blog readers have reported their health benefits in comments to the insertion. Furthermore there are thousands of health reports spread out as comments to other insertions on the blog. I have also a link to Recipes on Low Carbohydrate Food. There are collections of recipes on Internet and in books with LCHF recipes and many more to be.
The simplest way to find my blog is to search the word doctor on Google. Then my blog usually comes up as the first or the second hits. There is also a speed linking on http://www.doktordahlqvist.se/. My blog can also be read backwards but there are thousands of insertions so it is not within human power to be able to read everything. I have also written three books, links in the margin, and have an additional book in progress, a cookery book for Parties and Festival Feasts in collaboration with Maria Höglund. I have started a foundation: "Doktor Dahlqvists fond" where the money is to be spent on research about diet and health. The royalties from the selling of my books are passed on to the foundation.
In September 2008 I recieved an award: Leo Huss Walin Prize for independent thinking. The award was shared with Jörgen Vesti Nielsen who has done trailblazing research on low carbohydrate diet for diabetics. My prize will go to the foundation. I hope that many people will donate money to the foundation in order to promote research concerning diet and health.

I am a general practitioner and live in Njurunda south of Sundsvall, Sweden.During my whole adult life I have had overweight problems.
Health Benefits by LCHF
Here below you can study health improvements which different people experienced after having changed their diet over to LCHF. If you eat LCHF yourselves study these comments below and certainly comment yourselves if you feel that you have something to convey. If possibly describe approximate quantity of fats/protein/carbohydrates. If you don’t find your illness/health improvement, mail Annika Dahlqvist on her e-mail address annika.dahlqvist@telia.com and she will insert it.

”Linda, animal food has a higher content of vitamins and minerals than vegetables. The only thing vegetables are higher on is vitamin C. It is an antioxidant which is mostly needed to neutralize the harmful effects from the polyunsaturated fats. When we no longer eat so many of them, less vitamin C is even needed. I don’t advise against vegetables which contain vitamin C. I have written about this in the article ”The most common questions”.

"Hi!
I have not experienced any improvement on my skin, but each time I set myself into ketosis the pimples are growing up like flaring up like funguses in the forest. Usually I have a pimple or two now and then (rather seldom), but when in ketosis I get a number of pimples per day. They are of the evil kind and it seems to me that there is no limit how many to get. What does it depend on? This is unpleasant and dreary, but this is what I have to go through in order to lose weight, so this is what it is. Thank you for making it possible for the others of us to get in touch with this good change of life style.

"Helena,
I wonder if acne sometimes can be caused by deposits of toxins in the body which are circulating when they are weeded out. So called chloracne is a well known conception which is caused by dioxin poisoning, dioxin is fat-soluble and therefore can build up deposits in fat tissues, it is then logical that if you have dioxin in your body it is stored in your fat cells, if you then lose weight too fast larger quantities of it will be set free which affects the body on its way out from the body. The same thing concerns surely concerns materials too and this should well agree to the acne flaring up when the fat fire seriously has started up.
Written by Kenneth Ekdahl on 12 February, 2009 at 11:51
"Helena, you could possibly feel your way forwards to the composition of carbohydrates and fats which best affects your skin.
Written by Annika D on 12 February, 2009 at 15:07
"Thank you so much for your answers! I even suspected myself that it is caused by toxins which sets themselves free when I am fat burning in ketosis. I simply must see to it as a good sign which I temporarily can live with for a short time. But I also wonder, I have lost weight earlier with the tradional dietary advice, but then I never had this reaction with pimples flaring up. How and why is LCHF different?
Written by Helena on 14 February, 2009 at 01:43
"Helena
The difference can be that you in a higher degree eat food which does not bring more toxins and thus the body is starting to detoxify itself?

“My daughter who really wants to lose weight has got much acne ever since she has reduced the carbohydrate intake. After having read these insertions, the most persons seem to have improved their skin, and also there is a process which is going on inside her now when the toxins are leaving her body. I this is the way it is and if there are others with the same experiences I would like to know that and also about how long it takes to make these big pimples to disappear so that I can comfort her.
Written by mamma Anna on 07 March, 2007 at 09:35
”Hi”. I stumbled in, too (if then rather deliberately)! When I recently started to change my diet, a lot of small spots are coming, principally on the cheeks and around the mouth. Not real pimples you know, these I have plenty by the way (big strange things which are leaving scars without having touched them). What causes the spots? A kind of cleaning process?
And also I can’t help wondering how about berries? Blue berries, currants, strawberries etc contain carbohydrates of course, but also very much healthy substances? If you are walking around in the forest picking them it maybe does not matter. You can at least always hope!
Written by Sara on 06 August, 2009 at 22:03
”Sara, everyone who has problems with LCHF I usually recommend to return to their old habits and then change the diet more gradually, as they then can control the course of events. Wild berries, and non-toxically cultivated berries are OK in moderate quantities so that they don’t bring too much sugar.
Written by Annika D on 06 August, 2009 at 22:03
”Six months before I began eating LCHF I visited a shop in London. There only natural products are sold and I found a jar of rose oil. It would be good when treating pimples and slight acne. Ever since 15 years back I am “suffering” from small goose pimples principally on the forehead. They don’t even disappear due to sunning and bathing. During the whole time I have been using prescribed crèmes – not good. The goose pimples on the forehead disappeared after a week’s use of rose oil. The pimples appear much more seldom now and I can use the oil behind the ears and on the nose too. Since I began eating LCHF I don’t even need using the rose oil in the same extension any longer. My skin has improved so much and it is nice not to have any pimples, goose pimples and slight acne.

ADHD
“One of my woman-friends told me abort her daughter. She was diagnosed ADHD and was enormously rowdy and tiresome. The mother had heard about giving the ADHD-child Omgea-3, but the daughter refused both the oil and the capsules. When the mother had heard from me that you may eat butter she gave her daughter as much butter that she wanted and she ate it with pleasure. After then the ADHD problems evaporated and know nobody can say that something is wrong with the girl.

“Wow, how many tons of butter did she eat? Have two sons with ADHD, we eat naturally, but the symptoms have not evaporated.
Written by mammeli on 24 June, 2007 at 11:44
“I have made up my mind that ADHD is a description of the symptoms. No specific disease. Read long time ago about a test where such children were given Omega-3 and I had the idea that more then the half of them was relieved. Accordingly I draw my conclusion that the others had other reasons for their symptoms!!

” Well, Zepp, it’s probably not that simple, ADHD is to be found in a varying degree and is clearly hereditary! No, it’s not a disease but a neuropsyciatric dysfunction. More or less noticeable. Have tested Omega-3 for the both boys with no measurable improvement. Now I am going to try introducing LCHF diet, a little at a time and see if they improve. Natural food is never wrong! At first I am going to show my family how well I feel (will feel soon, I’ve recently begun). Nice with this blog, I support myself here every day!
Written by Mammeli o 09 August, 2007 at 15:35
” That something seems to be hereditary doesn’t mean always that it’s genetic hereditary, in fact they even inherit their parent’s food habits. That ADHD would be genetic hereditary seems highly improbable, a genetic change is not shown on a big part of the population during less than one generation. Possibly the sensitivity for lack on certain essential fatty acids can be hereditary. But the basic problem is quite likely something that has happened to our diet meantime that ADHD has increased so enormously much. Probably the rapid decrease of fats in our diet, foremost certain fatty acids like for instance EPA. Possibly the problem has accelerated due to the increased sugar intake. A number of performed tests with increased quantity of fats in the diet or animal Omega-3 supplement have shown very good results.

"Helena, you could possibly feel your way forwards to the composition of carbohydrates and fats which best affects your skin.

”Sara, everyone who has problems with LCHF I usually recommend to return to their old habits and then change the diet more gradually, as they then can control the course of events. Wild berries, and non-toxically cultivated berries are OK in moderate quantities so that they don’t bring too much sugar.
